Healthcare professionals in San Leandro no longer need to block off a full day to complete BLS, ACLS, or PALS training. Self-Guided Learning™ courses from the American Heart Association® let you finish the cognitive portion online, at your own pace, then verify your skills independently at a local CPR Verification Station™ learning center. No fixed class times. No waiting on a group schedule.
Safety Training Seminars, located at 433 Callan Ave #307 in San Leandro, offers this approach for healthcare professionals throughout the East Bay. Nurses, physicians, EMTs, and medical students from nearby facilities—including Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center (2500 Merced St) and San Leandro Hospital (13855 E. 14th St)—regularly train here to meet employment, clinical, and licensing requirements.
Self-Guided Learning™ combines two independent components:
Learners complete both steps on their own schedule and, upon successful completion, receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS.
This differs from blended learning, which requires a scheduled, instructor-led skills check. With Self-Guided Learning, there is no instructor facilitation during the skills session. The CPR Verification Station learning center objectively measures your performance against AHA-defined criteria and provides real-time, audiovisual feedback throughout.
The online portion uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously assesses your knowledge and confidence level, then adjusts the content path in real time.
If you already understand a concept, the course moves you forward. If you have a knowledge gap, it spends more time there. The result: a personalized learning pathway that focuses on what you actually need to master—not a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
You can access the online learning activity from a desktop, laptop, or tablet—anywhere with an internet connection. Most learners finish the BLS online course in one to two hours. ACLS and PALS typically take two to three hours.
Completing the online learning activity alone does not result in an AHA Course Completion eCard. You must also complete the hands-on skills session.
Once you finish the online course, you schedule your skills session at the CPR Verification Station™ learning center at Safety Training Seminars in San Leandro.
During this session, you perform required psychomotor skills independently. The station measures compression depth, recoil, rate, ventilation, and two-rescuer CPR performance against AHA guidelines. You receive real-time, objective feedback throughout—no live instructor coaching, no virtual facilitation.
If you do not achieve a passing score on the first attempt, you can repeat the skills activity as needed.
Skills sessions at Safety Training Seminars typically take around 30 minutes for BLS and ACLS. Upon successful completion of both components, you receive your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard the same day.
Safety Training Seminars offers three HeartCode® Complete Self-Guided Learning courses at the San Leandro location:
All three courses follow the latest 2025 American Heart Association guidelines. Course Completion eCards are valid for two years and meet requirements for hospital employment, clinical rotations, and professional licensing.
HeartCode® is a trademark of the American Heart Association.
Self-Guided Learning works best for:
